Physical activity people living with or recovering from cancer in Lincolnshire.

Fighting Fit is designed to help you to maintain or increase physical activity levels at a pace that suits you and support you in the fight against cancer and long-term health conditions.

We will help you build your strength, motivation and physical ambitions, and be here to put the kettle on and talk things through when you need it.

Cost:

  • 10 sessions free of charge
    • Individuals can then choose to stay on for a maximum of £4 a session.

Locations:

  • Boston, Lincoln, Gainsborough, Bourne, Market Rasen, Grantham and Mablethorpe.

 

Tailoring the sessions to you

Sessions are delivered by a Level 4 Cancer Rehab Instructor, ensuring safety and suitablility for people living with cancer. 

All individual will receieve a free one-to-one telephone consultation with the Fighting Fit team before attending; providing an opportunity to raise any worries or questions.

Sessions can be personalised and individuals can take any and all sessions at their own pace. If you need to sit, take a breather or stop and come back next week, you have the freedom to do so.

Fighting Fit 5K is a group offering people effected by cancer the opportunity to walk or run up to 5K, cheer on others or volunteer. The group also welcomes families, carers and supporters offering a safe space to meet others and talk about similar experiences. Following each session the group enjoys refreshments at Belton House, Stables Cafe, providing further opportunities for social interaction. The group is supported by Park Run UK, the Lincoln City Foundation and the National Trust. 

The groups Fighting Fit Champions will be there to welcome you on the day and support you to be part of the event.

Members have an option to join a secure Whats App group, which provides a chance to catch up with new and old friends between sessions. Alongside this the group is also developing a Facebook Page, which will be used to promote the Fighting Fit 5K, special occassions and associated events.

Venue: Free parking and accessible toilets. National Trust membership not necessary.

5K Your Way is a community-based initiative to encourage those living with and beyond cancer, families, friends and those working in cancer services to walk, jog, run, cheer or volunteer at a local 5kyourway parkrun event on the last Saturday of every month.

Boston 5K Your Way

Darkside Rising CIC

Darkside Rising CIC is a non-profit, women’s health organisation based in Lincoln. We seek to challenge the perception of female strength, resilience and power through innovative physical training and mindful arts projects.

Working in a personalised, inclusive way, we exist to:

  • Create safe spaces to connect and develop self-acceptance
  • Support confidence and self-esteem
  • Innovate physical activity for women with complex health needs
  • Embrace neurodivergence
  • Mentor lived-experience leadership

We provide specialist services across 3 major programmes:

  • Neurodivergent women
  • Women with complex health needs, such as those diagnosed with cancer, or neurological conditions
  • Women going through specific life-changes, such as menopause or the postnatal period

The Strength in Cancer Project is a specialist cancer rehabilitation exercise programme dedicated to improving the physical and mental health of women living with cancer. The group offer specialist adaptive strength training and peer support to women in Lincolnshire who have recently been diagnosed with cancer, or are currently going though treatment.

Classes last 75 minutes and are held once a week. Everyone works to their own individual programme of adapted strength and technique, in a relaxed, supportive and body positive environment.

Delivered by exercise professionals with a Level 4 qualification in Cancer Exercise Rehabilitation, using evidence-based research to provide access to safe strength training. 

Cost: 

  • To attend a weekly class there is a suggested donation of £20 per month.
  • However please speak to the team as funding may be possible in certain circumstances.
